Crews are still working to clear yesterday’s rock slide, with rock scalers removing unstable material. Safety is the priority, and while progress is ongoing, there’s no confirmed reopening time yet. Officials hope to reopen later today, pending full security checks.

🚧 Rock Slide Update (Feb. 25) 🚧
The engineer has completed their assessment of this morning's rock slide. For everyone's safety, they’ve recommended rock scaling before reopening the road.
Rock scalers are scheduled to begin work tomorrow, Wednesday, February 26th. We’ll provide another update once the work is complete.

Location: Richmond Hill, Flood Hope Road

Incident Summary:
On February 24, 2025, at approximately 10:30 PM, an emergency call was received from the RCMP reporting a rock slide on Flood Hope Road, located between Mario’s Towing and a large truck lot in the Richmond Hill area. The rock slide caused disruption to technical lines and posed a significant safety risk to motorists.

Immediate Actions Taken:
The District of Hope responded immediately, working closely with the RCMP and local roads crew to address the situation. In accordance with safety protocols, Flood Hope Road was closed to protect the public from further danger. Barricades and safety signs have been installed, and the road will remain closed until further assessment is completed.

Current Status:
There are no reports of injuries related to this incident. The road will remain closed while a thorough review is conducted by the District’s road crew and a geotechnical engineer to ensure the area is safe for reopening. We anticipate a follow-up review with the engineer in the morning.

Next Steps:
The safety of our residents and visitors is our top priority. The District of Hope is committed to resolving this situation promptly and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
