District of Hope 100 Radon Test Kit Challenge

prevention starts at home: GET a free RADON test kit AND protect your family from lung cancer

 January 2023

The District of Hope is inviting all residents to participate in the 100 Radon Test Kit Challenge. We are distributing radon test kits to help kick start awareness and to learn how prevalent radon is in our community.

The District started handing out test kits in November and there are still some left.

Citizens can pick up test kits from January 17 to 27 at the District of Hope Office, 325 Wallace Street Hope, B.C.

The leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers, radon gas can be found in elevated concentrations in homes across the country.  While Canada has had a National Radon Program for over a decade, many Canadians remain unaware of the deadly gas.

Radon levels vary across BC as can be found from the BC Radon Map. We still have very few readings for Hope and want your help with community testing.

This is an initiative of Take Action on Radon, the British Columbia Lung Foundation, the District of Hope and the Fraser Valley Regional District.

Take Action on Radon is a national initiative funded by Health Canada, that works to bring together radon stakeholders and raise radon awareness across Canada.  The initiative is led by the Canadian Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists (CARST) and the Canadian Cancer Society.   To learn more about radon and how to test your home, visit: https://TakeActionOnRadon.ca

BC Lung promotes education, awareness, and law and policy reform to address radon. To learn more visit https://bclung.ca/ŕadon

We thank Health Canada and the Vancouver Foundation for funding for the test kits.

Residents who pick up test kits from January 17 to 27 will be able to return them to District of Hope Office from May 8 to 12  to ensure they are delivered to the lab for analysis..
