🐻 Please Be Bear Aware

There have been numerous bear sightings throughout Hope, including a mother and three cubs near the Rupert Street boat launch.

Please give bears plenty of space. Do not approach, follow or stop to photograph them… especially when cubs are present. If you encounter a bear, remain calm, do not run and slowly back away.

You can also help protect bears and our community by:
• Keeping dogs leashed and under control
• Securing garbage, compost, pet food and other attractants
• Putting garbage carts out only on collection day
• Staying alert near waterways, wooded areas and other natural food sources
• Never feeding wildlife

Bears are currently searching for natural food sources, including fish. When bears become comfortable around people or gain access to human food, the likelihood of conflict increases, and the bear may ultimately be destroyed.

Living in bear country means we all have a responsibility to give wildlife space and prevent conflicts. Please do your part to keep our community (and our bears) safe.
