Clarification on Water Quality Measures: Information for Residents of Hope District

Dear Residents,

We understand the importance of transparency in our efforts to maintain the highest standards of water quality within Hope District. We'd like to provide you with a comprehensive update on our water monitoring processes to ensure a clearer understanding.

Our commitment to quality is a weekly affair. We diligently sample all water systems, forwarding these samples to Fraser Health for rigorous analysis. This forms a fundamental part of our ongoing Water Quality Monitoring program, a continuous effort to safeguard your access to safe, clean water.

Annually, in June, we publish our Water Quality Report, an extensive document accessible on our website. This report details our standards and assessments, providing you with insight into our procedures and results.

Recent events prompted immediate action from our utilities staff. Following a positive sample result in a specific area, thorough measures were taken, including system flushing and subsequent tests, leading to the issuance of a boil water advisory as a precautionary measure.

Compliance with the Canadian Drinking Water Guideline is our unwavering commitment. Our target remains undetectable levels of total coliform and e.coli per 100ml, aligning with the highest safety standards.

To ensure accuracy and reliability, duplicate samples from the affected area were sent for analysis - one to Fraser Health and the other to an independent lab for comparative study.

At present, our utilities team is vigilantly treating the affected water system with chlorine. This process initiates with a shock treatment at the supplying well and will persist until three consecutive negative results are obtained, under the guidance of Fraser Health.

Though our community usually enjoys chemical-free water, when signs of potential contamination emerge, we act swiftly to secure your safety.

Please stay informed as we diligently work towards restoring our water quality and ultimately lifting the boil water advisory.
