Property Assessment
Property assessments are prepared by BC Assessment, an independent provincial organization established under the Assessment Authority Act. The District of Hope does not determine property assessments.
Each January, BC Assessment mails property owners an assessment notice showing the estimated market value of their property as of July 1 of the previous year. This assessed value is one of the factors used to calculate your annual property taxes.
If you believe your property's assessed value is incorrect, you should contact BC Assessment as soon as you receive your assessment notice. Assessment appeals must be filed within the timelines established by BC Assessment.
Property assessments help provincial and local governments determine the tax rates required to fund public services. While BC Assessment determines your property's assessed value, the District of Hope sets municipal tax rates each year through the annual budget process.
BC Assessment also provides online access to property assessment information, neighbourhood data, recent sales information, and resources to help you understand your assessment.
