🌲🔥 District of Hope FireSmart Demonstration Project Coming to Coquihalla River Community Park
The District of Hope is launching a FireSmart Demonstration Project at Coquihalla River Community Park (805 Kawkawa Lake Road) later this month as part of our ongoing efforts to reduce wildfire risk and build a more resilient community.
Over the next several months, you may notice surveyors, forestry professionals, wildfire specialists, environmental consultants, and vegetation management crews working in portions of the park. Their work will focus on assessing the site and implementing FireSmart vegetation management practices that help reduce wildfire risk while preserving the park's natural beauty and recreational value.
Project activities may include:
🌲 Site surveys and mapping
🌿 Forest and vegetation assessments
🔥 Wildfire risk evaluations
✂️ Selective pruning and vegetation removal where appropriate
📍 Educational signage and future public learning opportunities
This project is a key recommendation of the District's Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan and will become a living demonstration of how FireSmart principles can help protect homes, neighbourhoods, and critical infrastructure from wildfire.
While temporary work areas may be in place, every effort will be made to minimize impacts to park users.
Thank you for your patience and support as we continue building a safer, more wildfire-resilient Hope. 🌲🏡🔥
