🐻 Bear Activity in Hope – Please Be Bear Aware
Residents are advised of increased bear activity in several areas of the community.

A mother bear and two cubs have been very active near the Rotary Trail and 7th Avenue & Maple Street, including sightings in trees and on nearby streets. A bear has also been active in the Silver Creek area, where garbage has been accessed.

With bears currently active in our neighbourhoods, please help reduce wildlife conflicts by securing garbage and other attractants.

🗑️ Garbage Cart Reminders
Collection Day: Place your garbage cart at the curb on your scheduled collection day only, between 4:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.
After Collection: Return your cart to its proper storage area by 9:00 p.m. on collection day.
Proper Storage: When not at the curb, garbage carts must be stored in a wildlife-resistant enclosure, such as a garage, shed or other secure structure that prevents wildlife from accessing the contents.

🌳 Fruit Trees: Pick up fallen fruit regularly and remove other potential food sources from your property. Fruit is an attractant for bears and other wildlife.

🐻 Living in Bear Country
Garbage and other food sources can quickly attract bears into residential areas. Properly securing attractants helps prevent bears from becoming food-conditioned and reduces the potential for wildlife conflicts in our neighbourhoods.

These garbage requirements are part of the District of Hope's Good Neighbour and Solid Waste Management Bylaws and are intended to help protect residents, neighbourhoods and local wildlife.

Please give bears plenty of space and never approach a bear or cubs.
