Campfire Update for the District of Hope

In conjunction with the BC Wildfire Service and the Coastal Fire Centre, the District of Hope will once again permit Category 1 campfires within municipal boundaries, effective at noon on Thursday September 3, 2026.

Please remember the following safety guidelines:
✅Definition: A campfire is any fire smaller than 0.5 metres high by 0.5 metres wide
✅Purpose: Campfires are only permitted for cooking and warmth
✅Weather: Never light or maintain a campfire in windy conditions
✅Fireguard: Clear a fuel-free area around your campfire down to the soil
✅Supervision: Never leave a campfire unattended
✅Extinguish: Ensure the fire is completely out and ashes are cold before leaving

🚫 Category 2 and 3 fires are only permitted within District boundaries with an approved burning permit.
