♻️ Hope’s Recycling Audit: Let’s Keep Sorting Carefully

The latest Recycle BC audit found that 26.1% of the material sampled from Hope’s curbside recycling was incompatible with the program. That’s slightly higher than the 25.4% found in the previous audit.

The largest issues in this sample were unsortable material (9.60%), clothing and textiles (3.83%), packaging not accepted in the program (2.90%), other flexible plastic packaging (2.04%) and electronics (1.88%).

A few sorting habits can help:

✔️ Place accepted recyclables loose in your cart, not inside bags.
✔️ Empty and rinse containers.
✔️ Keep clothing, books, electronics and other non-accepted items out of curbside recycling.
✔️ Take flexible plastic packaging and other depot-only materials to an appropriate recycling depot.

When in doubt, check where an item belongs before putting it in the cart. Taking a moment to sort helps keep Hope’s recycling on track.
