🧡 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – September 30

Wednesday, September 30, marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

The District of Hope honours the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities. We recognize the lasting impacts of residential schools and our shared responsibility to learn the truth and support reconciliation.

We encourage residents to listen to Indigenous voices, participate in Indigenous-led learning, and carry that commitment beyond September 30.

Across our region, communities are marking this occasion through gatherings and opportunities for learning, including Sq’éwqel (Seabird Island Band)’s September 29 Truth and Reconciliation Gathering, centred on connection, reflection and healing.

Shxw’ow’hamel, Chawathil and Yale have partnered to host a gathering on Wednesday, September 30, beginning at noon at the Shxw’ow’hamel Complex, 58700A St. Elmo Road, Hope.

Lighting the Path: Our Stories of Resilience honours Survivors through teachings, story and language. The September 30 and October 24 performances are sold out. Follow Sq'ewá:lxw First Nation's Stories of Resilience for updates and future dates.

Residents can also support Indigenous businesses and connect with the land, art, culture and history of our region through Ruby Creek Art Gallery, Telte-Yet Campground, Muskwa Gallery & Indian Crafts, Syéx̱w Chó:leqw Adventure Park, Great River Fishing Adventures and Tuckkwiowhum Heritage Village.
